Oracle OpenWorld once again promises to be the biggest and best technical conferences to attend. There will be tens of thousands of attendees, thousands of sessions and hundreds of demonstrations all focused on Oracle technologies. Vlamis is once again making plans to attend and participate, and we hope we will see you there. Oracle OpenWorld is scheduled October 2-6, 2011 and will be at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Registration details can be found at http://www.oracle.com/openworld.
Vlamis Presentations on Sunday and Thursday
We are scheduled to present "Fast and Complex BI Analysis with Oracle OLAP" on Sunday, October 2, at 9am in room Moscone West - 2003. The presentation will explore how new features in Oracle OLAP 11g can enhance the performance of Oracle-platform-based data warehouses. The data warehouse can then provide your original data and additional measures through standard SQL to any reporting solution you wish. The presentation will focus on using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (and the new map views in 11g) and Excel as clients of the data warehouse.
In addition, we will be presenting on Thursday, October 6 at 3pm in Intercontinental Ballroom A on a similar topic. We look forward to "bookending" the Oracle OpenWorld conference on Sunday and Thursday and seeing you in one or both of the presentations.
While at OpenWorld, you can meet with members of the Vlamis team at the NAVTEQ booth, located at Moscone South Booth #2026. As part of our reseller partnership with NAVTEQ, we are assisting them with their marketing efforts. Stop by and talk to us about how we can implement a mapping solution into your business intelligence applications.
This is THE social event for OLAP at Oracle OpenWorld. There will be members of product management and expert consultants on hand for you to meet with. Vlamis is co-hosting this exclusive reception with Simba. The reception will be early evening on Tuesday and will be very near to the convention center. Please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org for an invitation that includes the specific time and location.
We are pleased to announce that Vlamis is an official reseller for Simba. This will enable us to resell Simba's MDX Data Provider for Oracle OLAP and bundle this into deals. Quite often, users just want to access the data in their database from Excel without the complication of defining business rules, a middle tier, or having to export the data to Excel. We are creating an offering to help companies get started with analyzing multidimensional data using the Oracle database using Microsoft Excel as a front-end tool. This offering does just that. Visit our web site at www.vlamis.com/simba or contact us today if you are interested in more information on this exciting offering.
NAVTEQ LBSP (Location Based Services Platform) is now available from Vlamis. This service allows OBIEE 11g to retrieve background maps directly from NAVTEQ while still overlaying Oracle BI content. This is particularly important for Oracle BI Mobile on the iPhone and iPad. Call us for a demo and for further information. You can also visit www.vlamis.com/navteq
Oracle has released a new SampleApp (V107) for use with the 188.8.131.52 version of OBIEE. It is free from the OBIEE Sample Site.
There are a great number of examples that expand upon the previous sample application and highlight many of the new features of the 184.108.40.206 release. Of particular note is the fact that this release includes not only the install files to install on your own server but also an Oracle VirtualBox VM Image. The Linux Virtual Machine includes Oracle 220.127.116.11 EE database with OLAP and Data Mining options installed, Oracle Essbase, TimesTen, APEX and JDeveloper. This is perfect for companies who want to "kick the tires" and see how OBIEE works. The samples provide an excellent set of examples that can be used throughout your own implementations.
We were very pleased to get a pre-release of this before it went live so that we could start preparing blog entries on the new features in this release. See Chris's initial blog entry and subsequent blog entries for more information on this release.

We recently completed our rebrand/company identity project with a new sign over our office door in the Seaport office development in Liberty, Missouri. Come visit us! Revising a logo is an interesting process as it forces one to consider many aspects of a business's positioning that aren't normally considered on a daily basis.
The old Vlamis Software Solutions logo was designed to convey both a tie to OLAP through the cube symbol as well as incorporate a nod to our Greek heritage through the use of the "Greek Key" (which is tied metaphorically to unity and infinity and knowledge is also related to other Greek themes of the labyrinth, the sea, and the eye). As you might guess, we wanted to maintain a connection with the old logo, but create something that was easier to read. The logo is designed to be both professional and clean, but also convey a friendly and approachable style (why we choose to put Vlamis in the lower case). Look for additional extensions of our website and be sure to ask one of us for a new business card at Oracle OpenWorld. We just printed up a whole slew of them.
