Join Us for Dan and Tim's Annual OpenWorld Unauthorized BI and Analytics Scoop SessionTechcast

October 16, 1pm Eastern, Noon Central, 10am Pacific

The weather was beautiful, the meetings intense, the sessions engaging, and the keynotes upbeat. The keynotes featured pounding music and splashing catamarans along with several thousand mentions of the word "CLOUD".

There were lots of big announcements for the world of business intelligence and analytics at OpenWorld and we’ll try to cover them all. The second most uttered word on the Oracle Keynote stage (after "CLOUD") may have been analytics. The roadmap sessions were completely packed. We’ll break down the important announcements and omissions and discuss the implications for the world of BI and analytics. We’ll talk demos and roadmaps and what products are ready to take off and what products are on the path to abandonment (harrumph, "extended support, but limited feature development and enhancement"). We’ll talk seriously and technically, but we will also have a little fun. Send us your top take aways from OpenWorld, your best tips, your questions needing clarification and your favorite Aerosmith tunes and we’ll work them in to what has become an annual tradition as we try to make sense of what Oracle said and did at OpenWorld 2014.

For more information, see http://tinyurl.com/oow14biscoop. Please help us spread the word about the webcast and please email us to let us know what you want to see in the webcast. See Dan's blog entry for details.

Brought to you by the BIWA SIG of the IOUG. See www.biwasummit.org for more information on BIWA Summit 2015 conference at Oracle HQ! We are still accepting abstracts for consideration through the end of October. Presenters receive free admission to the conference.

What a Rocking Reception!OOW Reception

The drinks were flowing and the sliders were sliding. Thanks to everyone who made it around or through the construction maze and attended our annual reception on Tuesday evening in San Francisco! We are hoping the torn up streets and sidewalks are all put back by October 2015.

Matt Fritz from Darden Restaurants' Session on Clustering and Predictive Analytics at OpenWorld 2014

Vlamis client Darden Restaurants sent their Senior Data Scientist, Matt Fritz, to OpenWorld 2014 where he presented on Darden's Oracle Advanced Analytics solution. Matt participated in an Oracle R Enterprise training class given by Mark Hornick and Tim Vlamis and worked with Vlamis during the past year. Matt's session was one of the most approachable and insightful presentations we've seen on Oracle Advanced Analytics and how to leverage the power of Oracle R Enterprise and Oracle Data Mining for scalable performance and important insights. Kudos, Matt!

BI Cloud Services is Soaring

Tim presented at OOW with Oracle's Alan Lee on Advanced Meta Data Modeling and the experiences of Vlamis client and Oracle BI Cloud Service preview participant Pioneer Balloon Company. As a part of the BI Cloud Service beta program, Vlamis was one of a handful of Oracle partners to work in the new environment prior to its general release. If you have questions regarding "BI in the Cloud" with a simplified modeling environment in a web browser ("look ma, no windows!"), point and click data loading, and a familiar front end for building amazing BI dashboards and analyses, let us know and we'll share our insights and experience. Special thanks to Pioneer Balloon for jumping in early and finding out how easy it is to get started in the cloud.
