Tuesday Night Reception

We will be hosting our annual reception on Tuesday September 20. Join us to discuss the Business Intelligence Cloud, Upgrading to Oracle BI 12c, Workshops and Assessments, Data Visualization, and any other topics. In addition to food and drinks, we will incorporate some visualizations and analytics in the festivities - we'll just leave it at that, so bring your conference badge and your phone. Send an email to Carolyn for an invitation. We hope to see you there!

Dan and Tim regularly attend Oracle Open World and hope that you will be able to attend their sessions. With over 1000 sessions and over 50,000 people, it can be tough to find a time to meet at Oracle OpenWorld if we leave it up to chance. Please send an email to Doug if you are attending so we can find a time to meet with Dan or Tim during this conference.

SampleApp v607 Webinar Replay

In case you missed Dan’s demonstration of Oracle Business Intelligence using the latest release V607 from the Oracle BI SampleApp team, the replay is available now. Featuring hundreds of dashboards, analyses, and scripts, SampleApp is known in the Oracle BI consulting community as THE go to platform for showcasing the full capabilities of Oracle BI. Release V607 of SampleApp runs on version 12.2.1.1 (first 12c patch release) of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.

Dan also presented additional free visual analytic demo tools for BI and analytic professionals, including the new BI Public Demo Store. This platform is geared towards Oracle BI (and Data Visualization Desktop) users, allowing them to learn new techniques, and even to download additional visualizations into Oracle's Data Visualization Desktop tool.

All content shown is available for free from Oracle and Vlamis.

Submit Abstracts for BIWA Summit 2017

BIWA Summit 2017 will take place January 31-February 2, 2017 at Oracle headquarters. This is THE conference for BI, Analytics, Big Data, and Spatial content using Oracle technology, and draws presenters and attendees from around the world. Dan returns as conference co-chair for this year’s conference. Submit your abstract by August 31, 2016 to be considered for “early acceptance” to be included in promotional materials for the conference and to get a free conference pass. See the conference website at www.biwasummit.org for more information.

Analytic Warehousing

As announced last year at Oracle OpenWorld, Analytic Views greatly enhance the Oracle database’s ability to use very simple SQL SELECT statements to perform complex analytics against any row source (including of course regular Oracle tables). We have been using this feature as part of Oracle’s beta program. Dan will be discussing this new capability in his Oracle OpenWorld talk: “Analytic Views Simplify Complex Business Intelligence Queries”. This new feature will enable lightweight applications to perform complex calculations that were impossible or too difficult to implement using a standard relational database. Follow us on Twitter @vlamissoftware or come to Dan’s Oracle OpenWorld session to learn more. Better yet, contact us so we can investigate your use cases using this feature today, even while on the beta program.
